The following are some important dates for the month of August:

Wednesday, August 14, 2019 – Class Lists are posted in Skyward and are available after 4:000pm
Friday, August 16, 2019 – Back to School Night 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Monday, August 26, 2019 – Kindergarten Back To School Night 3:00pm – 5:00pm

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 – First Day of School for Grades 1st – 6th
Tuesday, August 20, 2019 – Back to School Night for Preschool Students 1:00pm – 3:00pm and also from 4:00pm – 6:00pm

We are really excited to see everyone back. During our Back to School night we will have the PTA here for the opportunity to join the PTA and sign up for the great volunteer opportunities with our school.

We will also have a table where you can meet Miss Rondi Jensen – she is our new school counselor. We are really excited to welcome her to Orem Elementary

If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the school or send an email. I know that this is going to be a great school year. This year Alpine School District’s theme is “Shine Alpine”. You can get a better understanding from the quote from Author Shawn Achor in his book “Big Potential’:

“Big Potential reminds us that it is only by surrounding ourselves with other stars, are we able to truly shine.”

The following is community information:

The 2019 “Orem’s Got Talent!” Competition will be taking place Friday, June 14th at the Orem City Center Stage. It will be the headlining event of Orem City’s Summerfest.

Orem is currently celebrating 100 years and so this event will be a significant opportunity for students to share their talents with the City and take part in the centennial celebration!

Students must submit an application (their audition) which includes a video of their talent (no longer than three minutes) by June 7th. They will be notified on June 8th if they are selected to participate.

The application can be accessed at the Orem Summerfest website, or it can be requested through [email protected].

“MVHS Youth Cheer is starting back up for grades 2nd through 9th grade in the Fall 2019.  This is a low cost way to be exposed to cheer and get training towards making it onto older teams in the future.  The Youth Cheer program attends the Orem Summerfest Parade, practices through the summer and cheers for youth football teams in the Fall.  All girls that register will have a spot on the team and the coach has over 15 years of experience and is great with the youth. Information can be found on the facebook page “MVHS Youth Cheer”.

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our students and staff on another successful school year! We want you to know how much we have enjoyed working with your students and the progress they have made in the last eight months. In our school, we focus on the well-being of the whole child. This includes what they learn academically, as well as their social and emotional safety. Through our partnership with the United Way and the “EveryDay Strong” Campaign, we know that students need to feel SAFE (physically and emotionally), CONNECTED and CONFIDENT. We all need to work together in achieving this goal.

Considering we will not be in school for over two months, we want to give you some helpful tips and useful suggestions for the summer.

The following link will share  “Healthy Habits for Summer”.

In the absence of school staff and service providers, here is a link listing some Community Resources that are available to you if needed.

There may be times when, as a parent or guardian, you are unsure if your child is showing signs that should concern you. The following link can help:   “Know the Five Signs that Might Indicate Someone is in Emotional Pain”

This information is also available on our school website. We hope you have an enjoyable and safe summer. We are looking forward to seeing both students and parents again in August.

Tomorrow is Field Day.  Don’t forget that it will be a PM common day.  All students in grades 1st – 6th will come at 9:15am and leave at 3:30pm. Kindergarten classes will be a normal schedule.

Please be sure to check the lost and found before the last day of school, May 30, 2019.  All of the items left in the lost and found after the last day of school will be donated to a local charity who helps refugees.

This week (in between rain storms) we will be planting our OES Garden.  This summer we will have a summer garden club. The club will meet on Tuesday mornings at 8:00am to 9:30am.  We will attend to the weeds, plants and other gardening responsibilities. If your child/children are interested please let Mrs. Jensen or Mrs. Park know via email.

We are still looking for a design for the Garden Banner.  If your child is interested in designing one, please have them submit their design on an 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper to the office.

As you all know school attendance is very important.  We would like to congratulate the following students for having PERFECT, PERFECT Attendance.  This means they had no absences, tardies or check-outs. They were here 100% of the time.

These students received a 100% Attendance award, a 100% Attendance pin and lunch with the principal.  Congratulations! We hope to have more students next year!

The year is coming to an end, don’t forget that tomorrow is the last day of Kindergarten.  We only have 6 more wake up days before summer vacation!!!
