Good Afternoon OES Families

February is about over, and spring is on the way.

We have had some great things to celebrate this month.

  1. Congratulations on both level 1 and level 2 teams taking gold ribbons on Saturday and qualifying to go to BYU!

  2. Our Storytelling festival was very successful.  We would like to congratulate our winners: Eleanor Taggart and Addilyn Whimpy.  They will advance to the district Storytelling Festival in March.

Don’t forget, tonight is our Family Skate Night at Classic Skating from 5:30pm – 8:30pm.

Other than that, this is a quiet week.

Please check the lost and found for any lost jackets, coats, mittens or other items that may be missing.  Also, please remember that anything your child brings to school could get lost. This last month we have had cell phones lost/stolen.  If your child needs to bing a cell phone, the phone should be turned off while at school. Students are welcome to ask the office or their teacher to hold the phone during the day to make sure they are safe and then pick them up after school.

Students should not be using phones during school hours, if they need to make a call, they are welcome to use a school phone.  Cell phones are prohibited on the playground and cannot be used to take pictures or record anyone at school. If a student is found using their school phone in any of these ways, it will be taken away and a parent or guardian will need to come to the office to pick it up.  If a cell phone is used in this way at school, it infringes on the rights of other students. If you have any questions on this policy, please let me know and I can explain further.

Principal’s Message – February 5th

Good Morning OES Families,

We look forward to seeing everyone this week during our Student Led Conferences.  These will be held on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The hours are 4:00pm – 5:30pm and then from 6:00pm and wrapping up at  7:30pm. This is an open house format where students celebrate their learning with their parents. There are no scheduled appointments.

The month of February has a few fun activities.  The final school storytelling assembly will be on February 22, 2019.  We also have our family skate night at Classic Skate on February 25, 2019.

Remember that there is no school on Monday, February 18, 2019 in honor of Presidents Day.

We celebrated 100 days of school last week, and with the school year more than half-way complete, this is a good time to remind everyone about the parking lot pick up and drop off zones.  Please be cautious when dropping off and picking up your student and drive slow.

I have attached a copy of a map that shows the flow of traffic for drop off and pick up areas at our school.  The arrows in red are where cars are able to drop off and pick up their students. This lane is for quick stops and cars should not be left unattended at any time.  If you need to come into the school, please park in the parking stalls and use the crosswalk.

The arrows in blue are for drive through only.  Please do not stop to pick up or drop off your student(s) in this lane.

The orange area is the bus zone.  We only have a couple of busses that transport children in our special class, but the USDB school (located in the trailer west of the school), has several vans and small busses that use the bus zone.  We cannot have any vehicles parked or idling in this area.

It is important that we all work together and DRIVE SLOW in the school parking lot to keep our students safe.  We don’t want children running across busy streets, not using the crosswalks and seeing speedy drivers through the school zones – these are all safety hazards and accidents can be avoided if we all slow down and follow the precautions.
