Principal’s Message – May 15th

By Principal's Message

This is a quiet week, but we would like to remind everyone about a few things.  First off, if your family will not be attending Orem Elementary next year, please let the office know as soon as possible.

Report cards will not be printed out at school.  If you need a hard copy for any reason (such as Krispy Kreme rewards or any other rewards), they will need to be printed from home.  Alpine School District is doing what they can to go green.

The days are getting warmer, but we still have a dress code to follow at school.  Please save the cute summer clothes that are tank tops and short shorts for home.

Some great additions have come to our playground.  You may have noticed the Gaga Pit. This popular game is thanks to Mrs. Jensen who wrote a grant to purchase part of the pit and Lowes who donated the lumber to make this possible for our students.  The project was constructed by Christian Romero.  The grant (Fuel up to Play 60) also gave us money for our new OES garden addition.

We will planting our OES garden soon and we are looking for students who would like to help out during the summer months attending to our garden.  Please let Mrs. Jensen or Mrs. Park know if you are interested.

Right now we are looking for any interested young artist to submit a drawing that we could put on a banner on the wall above our garden spot.  If your child is interested, please have them submit a designed drawing on an 8X10 sheet of paper and turn it into the office before the end of the school year.

Remember that next week, May 22, 2019 is our field day.  It is a PM common day. All students in grades 1st – 6th will come at 9:15am and leave at 3:30pm. Kindergarten classes will be a normal schedule. It is also the last day of school for Kindergarten.

Principal’s Message – May 7th

By Principal's Message

Dear OES Families,

Have you noticed our outside Buddy Benches?  They have been refurbished and are looking beautiful!  We have Preston Trout and friends to thank for doing this for our school.  Preston is Mrs. Trout’s son and we are very grateful for his service.

Today is the last day of Home Reading.  Good work to all of the students who participated, and a big thank you to all of the volunteers who helped exchange books.

Yesterday, our Hope Squad had a great opportunity to have NBC Nightly News come and film one of the Hope Squad lessons.  They also interviewed a couple of students and asked about the importance of Hope Squad.  Dr. Greg Hudnel was also here to talk to the Hope Squad about the importance of looking out for one another and all of the students in our school. We don’t know when the story will air, but I will send more information when it comes.  We would like to extend another big thanks to Laura Giles and our Hope Squad advisors, Nanette Jensen, Marcie Calder, Chelsea McCleave, Trish Anderson and Teresa Whitehead for their example and teaching our Hope Squad concepts they can pass on to other students and people in our community.

Our last PTA meeting of the year is today at 1:00pm.

MORE EXCITING NEWS!!! We are getting ready to start planting our garden.  We will have a Garden Club this summer, more information will be coming in the near future.

Principal’s Message – April 23rd

By Principal's Message

Good Afternoon OES Families,

We are well underway with our Teacher Appreciation Week.  Our PTA is so supportive of our teachers and we really appreciate it.  Please see the attached flyer:

Teacher Appreciation 2019 – Students.odt

This year has been a crazy year with cell phones.  We have had several stolen out of backpacks, misplaced and used inappropriately.

Today, we announced that students could check in their phones to the office or their teacher during the school day.  However, if a student is using their phone during school hours it will be taken and kept in the office until a parent or guardian picks it up.  This is for the protection of our student’s privacy and exposure to possible inappropriate content.

If a child needs to make a phone call at school, we have phones available for their use during school hours.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

Also, don’t forget to contact me if your are interested in serving on our School Community Council.  For more information, please see the state web site:
