Good Morning OES Families,

I hope the weekend turned out well for you.  As most of you know, the first Wednesday of the month is Lemon Drop Wednesday.  Well, because of our current situation, this won’t be possible in the normal way, so we decided to have a Lemon Drop Week!  We thought this would be a perfectly positive way to get ready for Spring Break.

Wednesday – Teachers will be in the school neighborhood tying yellow ribbons around our boundaries.  Watch from a distance to see if you can see your teacher. This will take

Thursday – Science Experiment Video posted on our Social Media sites

Good Afternoon OES Families,

We have officially completed our second week of online learning. Great job everyone!!!

I just wanted to update you on some changes that will be in effect this upcoming Monday. Monday, March 30, 2020 the school doors will be locked. We will still have employees in the office answering phones, and teachers will be coming in and out, however students will not be allowed in the school. If you need something, just give us a call and we will come to the door and bring you whatever you are needing.

If you are still in need of a Chromebook, please contact our Computer Specialist, Megan Carter ([email protected]) for an appointment to check one out.

Next week the times we serve our “Grab and Go” breakfasts and lunches will change and will be distributed from 9:30am – 11:00am. Please note the changed time so you don’t miss out!

Don’t forget to check our Orem Elementary website (https://orem.alpineschools.org/), Alpine School District’s website (https://alpineschools.org) for updates.

Have a great weekend!

Good Afternoon OES Families,

I hope things are going well for you at home. Our teachers are working so hard, and I know you are too. We still have Chromebooks to check out if anyone needs one. Please contact our computer specialist, Megan Carter: [email protected] and she will help you with that.

I don’t want to overwhelm anyone, but I have a few favors to ask because as of right now, we won’t be back in school until May 1st.

First of all, if you know of any students who do not have internet access or a device, will you please let me know. I know many of you have neighbors and friends who may be in this situation and I want to make sure that all of our students have access to education. We have been calling families personally, but I just want to double check to make sure we aren’t missing anyone.

Next, this is something that has never been done before – teachers teaching from home and students learning from home. It’s quite exciting! We are still on schedule for our end of year activities and our yearbook is in need of pictures. If you as parents are ok with sending some of your students working from home that could be featured in our yearbook, will you please send Maria Wood ([email protected]) pictures of your students working from home. Thank you!

Here is some information from our community. As always, please refer to the Alpine School District website for any updates. I will try and keep you updated as soon as possible.

Breakfast and lunch are still being served at the school from 8:30am – 11:00am. You can pick up both breakfast and lunch at the same time so you don’t have to make two trips. This is on the east end of the school, right outside the gym.

Our office hours are from 8:00am – 12:00pm. We had scheduled Kindergarten registration for this week. We are almost up and running to take care of everything online. We will have a link on our website and I will send out more communication as soon as possible.

Here is the newest newsletter from Hope 4 Utah.

As always, please let me know if you need anything.

This week’s wondering is:

What is your favorite thing about learning at home? Mrs. West sent out something to her class and asked them to create a hashtag about it. If you would like, please comment on our Facebook Page or respond directly to this email. I will post as many responses back as possible.

Have a great day.

March 19, 2020

Good Afternoon OES Families,

Here are the latest updates from the Alpine School District;

Beginning Monday, we will be serving breakfast and lunch from 8:30am – 11:00am.  You may pick up your child’s breakfast AND lunch at the same time if you wish. If you have children that attend other schools, (Jr. High and High School), they may also pick up their lunch at Orem Elementary.

Our office hours beginning next Monday will be from 8:00am – 12:00pm.  If your family is in need of a device, please call the office to make arrangements to check one out.

Some students are having trouble accessing the internet and/or sites.  Our technology department is working with the state to take care of the issue.  Because of this issue, students are not required to complete assignments this week since they may not be able to access the necessary tools.  If your child has completed assignments, that is great! We are aware that some families may have some difficulties.

If you have any questions regarding school work, please contact your child’s teacher via email.

I know that everything combined can seem overwhelming. Please take the time to take care of yourself and your family first.  Do what you can and remember that it’s ok to take some time and breathe.

Our teachers are working endlessly on preparing lessons for your children. I am also learning.  I have created my first video that I am sending to students and families. It’s obviously not professional, but if we are expecting our teachers and students to stretch and learn new things, I am expecting that of myself too!

While we are off campus and learning remotely I am starting a new activity.  It is called “Weekly Wonderings”. This will begin next week with a video, a question and an answer that will follow up at the end of the week.  Feel free to have your child(children) email me with their wonderings and maybe their “Wonder” will be featured.

Have a great afternoon!
