Principal Message – July 16, 2021

By Principal's Message

Good Afternoon OES Families,

The new school year is about to begin and I thought I would remind everyone about our new schedule for next year.

On May 24th, 2021 Alpine School District sent an email to all employees and parents explaining the Return to Learn plan for the 2021-2022 school year.  In case you missed it, here is a link with all of the details:  https://alpineschools.org/returntolearn/

In summary, Orem Elementary will have a common start and end time, 5 days a week. There will be no early out days. School will begin at 9:15am and dismiss at 3:30pm each day. We are currently finalizing a plan for pickup/drop off, more detailed information will be sent out closer to the beginning of school.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Our Back to School night will be on Monday, August 16, 2021 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.

We are happy to be able to offer Ballroom for next year. The following is a message from our Ballroom director and attachment with more information.

Start your morning dancing!  We are excited to be offering our award winning ballroom program again this year.  5th and 6th graders will be meeting on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8am. There will also be an introduction to ballroom class for 3-4th graders on Wednesday mornings at 8am.  Registration forms are attached to this email. Please note that class sizes are limited and priority is given first come first serve.

If your child wants to give ballroom a try before making a decision they are welcome to come to the first two weeks of class starting August 24th/25th.  Tuition will be due and class lists finalized by September 10.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Enjoy the remainder of your summer.

Dear OES Families,

Welcome to our last week of school!  The following are a few reminders about his week:

Tuesday, May 25, 2021 – Field Day – NOTE:  This is a common PM day, students in grades 1st – 6th will come from 9:15am – 2:30pm.  There is no schedule change for Kindergarten students.

Wednesday, May 26, 2021 – Last day of Kindergarten

Thursday, May 27, 2021 – Last day of school for students in grades 1st – 6th.  This is also a common day, but because it is the last day of school, the schedule is:

9:15am – 10:45am

Thank you for helping us finish the final week of the school year strong. We are looking forward to celebrating our students this week in many fun-filled activities and events. This afternoon, all parents and employees will receive a District communication regarding assigned school start times for the fall.  While I am supportive of the learning impacts for students and the professional time allocated for teachers,  I anticipate there will be a lot of questions from parents and staff about the new schedule.

As questions and concerns surface in your mind, I ask that you keep them until next week. As a school, SCC, and PTA, we will find time this summer to think through our structure and find solutions to some of our challenges, together. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as we finish this week strong, and then address together next year’s schedule during the summer.

We would like to thank our community for the amazing support and the patience you have shown during this school year.  We look forward to the summer break and a new school year next August.

May you all have a safe and happy summer break.

Good Afternoon OES Families,

As we get closer to the end of school, I would like to thank all of our families for your support and understanding during this school year.  With your help, our teacher’s hard work and dedication, we have been able to have a successful 2020-2021 school year.

Our school will be following Alpine School District’s recommendations of continuing mask wearing throughout the end of the school year.  We appreciate your continued support.

We have a TON of lost and found items.  If your family is missing coats, jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc, please come and check out our lost and found.  We have all of the items in the main hall by the office on tables.  After school is out, any remaining items will be donated to charity.

This week we have Preschool Graduation on May 20th, 2021, our preschool teachers will be sending information regarding the celebration.

Also, we have our 6th grade graduation on May 21st, 2021. We ask that only parents of students in the sixth grade attend.  For extended family we will provide a link so they can participate virtually.  A link will be sent out later this week.

May 21st is also Spirit Day at R&R BBQ at the Provo Riverwoods location from 11:00am – 8:00pm.  You will need to show the attached flyer so that your order can benefit our school.  Orem Elementary Flyer.jpg

Next week we have Field Day to look forward to.  This is a common PM day, meaning that all students in grades 1st – 6th will come at 9:15am – 2:30pm. Kindergarten will stay on their regular schedule.

Wednesday, May 26th is the last day for Kindergarten.  They will follow their regular schedule.

Thursday, May 27th is our last day of school for grades 1st – 6th, which will be a common day.  The last day of school is a minimal day and the time students will attend will be from 9:15am – 10:45am.

Good Afternoon OES Families,

This week is our Kindergarten KEEP assessment time.  There will be no Kindergarten for Kindergarten tests, they will just come in at their assigned time to be assessed.

If you have a student in 5th grade, you will be receiving a link for the virtual maturation presentations today or tomorrow.  If you have not turned in your permission slips, but would still like the presentations sent to you, please let me know.

Please don’t forget that if you checked out a Chromebook for online learning, you will need to bring them back to the school next week, May 17-21, anytime during school hours.

The following is community information.
