Good Morning OES Families, 

Here is a list of events that will be happening this month school wide.  Individual grade levels will send information home of any events specific to the grade level.

December 3, 2019 – PTA Meeting @ 10:00am

December 17, 2019 – Annual Christmas Program – We will have two performances that day.  The first one will be at 9:45am and the second will be at 12:45pm.  We would encourage parents of early bird students to attend the first performance and parents of later gators to attend the second performance. 

December 19 2019 – School Christmas Sing – This is a school assembly for the students.

December 20, 2019 – Minimal Day

Kindergarten and Preschool will not have school on these days.  Teachers in these grades will send home school work for the students to complete on these days.  Students in grades 1st – 6th will have the following schedule:

Early Birds:  8:00am – 11:30am

Later Gators: 9:15am – 12:45pm

Our lunch schedule will change to accommodate the schedule, but lunch and breakfast will be served on these days.

December 21st – Jan. 3rd, 2020 – Holiday Break

If any 6th grade students would like to attend a Jr. High that is not their home school, you will need to begin the out of area approval process now.  Please see the following link if this applies to you:

Orem Elementary is a caring community.  The last couple of years, teachers and staff have donated money and have been able to help families with Christmas.  Last year, between donations from our faculty and staff as well as donations from KSL’s quarters for Christmas, we were able to assist over 30 individual children from our school.  We will continue this tradition this year. If you would like to donate to help families in our school please contact the office.

Dear Parents,

We are hopeful that your student’s second-quarter/trimester has gotten off to a good start and will bring continued growth and progress in reaching their goals. The Alpine School District Community believes that a love for learning, a safe environment, connections to their teachers and peers along with parental involvement, are fundamental to building confidence and an overall state of well-being for students.

This time of year can be exciting and fun, but can sometimes bring about additional stress for students. This can be social/emotional stress, academic stress, or just the fact that it is a time of year when students are hit by illness and general exhaustion. All of these can impact a student’s health and well-being. Here are a few articles/resources that may be helpful as you have conversations with your students:

• School Stress Takes A Toll On Health, Teens And Parents Say  Teenagers say their parents often don’t realize how overwhelmed they feel about school. Psychologists say parents can help children manage to put the child’s distress in perspective.

We are pleased to inform you that, through the support of the AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resilience in Education) Grant, we are offering mental health screening nights for all students grades 3-12. Our next scheduled screener night will be held on November 20, 2019, at Deerfield Elementary (4353 W. Harvey Blvd. Cedar Hills). Here is additional information about the Screener Night.   

We also want you to be aware of an opportunity for your high school student(s) to see the play Every Brilliant Thing. Participating high schools will be sending home information pertaining to the play that is being performed during the months of January and February. There will be a public viewing of this play on January 9, 2020, at 7:00 PM at Orem High School. All parents are invited to attend and are welcome to bring students ages 14 and up (if the student will not be attending a performance at their school). In honor of Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, the One Voice Children’s Choir released  “One More Light”  The hope is that “awareness” will translate into a deeper sense of care for the people in our lives. Please enjoy and share this beautiful song.

Thursday we have Book Buddies – Bring your favorite buddy and a book and enjoy a small snack before or after school.  

AM Time: 7:30am – 8:00am -in the gym

PM Time 6:30pm – 7:30pm – in the cafeteria

Happy November OES Families,

Lunch Times:  1st- 2nd Grade:  11:00am

            3rd – 4th Grade: 11:20am

              5th – 6th Grade:  11:40am

Please make sure that your special guests which classroom their student is in.  This makes it easier for the office to call students down to the office. If your special guest will be eating with students in multiple grades, we will make accommodations so your group can eat together.
