Principal Message – August 3, 2020

By Principal's Message

Good Morning OES Cubs,

The following is a message from our PTA:

OES PTA is considering selling masks ($5-8 each) with the school logo and lanyards ($3-5 each) in school colors from Alphagraphics. If you would be interested in buying 1 or more masks, would you please fill out this google form so that we have an idea of how many to order? The price depends on how many we order and when we submit the order.

Orem Elementary and the PTA worked together to provide a free yearbook to every student last year because of Covid-19. However if you ordered and paid for a yearbook before we made this decision, We have three options for you to consider. Please fill out this form to let us know what you would like us to do by August 7th, 2020.

The first option is for you to consider your payment a donation to the OES PTA. We don’t think that we will be able to hold carnival this year, so we don’t know what our fundraising will look like. We would really appreciate any donations that you are willing to give to the PTA.
The second option is to roll over your payment to pay for a yearbook for 2020-2021.
The third option is to request a refund. We will mail a check to you within the next month

We will be holding our first PTA meeting of the year on Tuesday, August 11 at 10:00 am in the gym at the school. We will be approving our budget for the year. Please join us!

Principal Message – July 30, 2020

We want to thank everyone who has logged on to Skyward to make their educational declaration for their students.  We have found that some families have had issues getting Skyward to work.  We are sending this form out as an alternative way to let us know what decision you would like to make regarding your students’ education at Orem Elementary.  Please fill out this form for each of your students who attend Orem Elementary.

https://forms.gle/6WgGCzrBao5sTTXeA

I would like to inform you of the precautions that we will be taking to keep our students and teachers as safe as possible. Recess times and lunch times will be staggered to ensure that only one grade level is outside for recess and/or in the lunchroom at a time.  Students will be spaced in the lunchroom as they sit at the lunch tables.  We have added time to our lunches, so the sanitation of the lunchroom can take place before the next grade level enters.  We will have arrows directing walking paths to and from the cafeteria, media center and outside class pickup areas.

Our teachers will be provided a face shield and a mask.  At this time, students can choose to wear either a face shield or a mask.  Face shields and masks will not be required at recess, during PE, or while they are eating lunch.  At this time they are required when entering the school, in class and transitioning to another area.  We have hand sanitizer dispensers in every classroom as well as two in the media center.  Students will be reminded to use the sanitizer (or wash their hands), before entering the media center, going to lunch, after using the restroom and going out and coming in from recess.

If you choose Option 2 – the online option.  Students will follow the district outlined curriculum for Language Arts, Math and Science.  The student will be assigned an Orem Elementary teacher on their grade level that will check in with the students during the week via an online platform.  We are not offering the option of a student coming a few days to school during the week, and then using the online system the other days.  The online option will only be online, with remote teacher check ins.

Our Back to School night will be modified, more information will be coming.

Our plan is fluid and can change.  Chromebooks will be limited for checkout, as they will be in use in our face to face plan in school.  I have attached a link to the COVID-19 School Manual:  COVID-19 School Manual that was referenced in today’s press conference.

The COVID-19 School Manual is posted on https://coronavirus.utah.gov and https://schools.utah.gov/coronavirus where you can also find many other helpful resources.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Good Afternoon OES Families,

Thank you to everyone who came and picked up their yearbooks.  I realize that some families were not able to make it. We will have our final day to pick up yearbooks next Wednesday from 9:00am – 11:00am.  This will take place in front of the school.  Some of our PTA volunteers will be out front next to the curb, so you can stay in your car and they will bring it to you.

This year the school partnered with the PTA so every student could receive a yearbook free of charge.  If you have paid for the yearbook, you can get a refund from the PTA, have the money applied to our next yearbook, or consider it a donation.  Please contact Tamera Bahr ([email protected])  if you would like a refund or want to apply the money for next year’s yearbook.

Please continue checking the Alpine School District’s web page, Orem Elementary’s web page and social media outlets for updates for the upcoming school year.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Have a wonderful afternoon.

Good Afternoon OES Families,

We have some exciting news! Our yearbooks have arrived and we would like to get them to you. Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 21, 2020 from 9:00am-11:am families with students whose last name begins with A – M, should come to the school to pick up a yearbook. The PTA and school have partnered together so that every student will receive a yearbook.

If your child’s last name begins with N-Z you can pick up your yearbook on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 9:00am -11:00am.

We will have tables outside in the front of the school where you can pick these up. Please practice social distancing and wear a face mask.

As we look forward to the upcoming school year, we need to fill 5 openings in our SCC (School Community Council). Serving on the SCC is a wonderful way for parents and teachers to contribute and help improve academic performance at our school. Every public school in Utah has an SCC. The councils are made up of school employees and parents elected by parents of students attending the school. Parent members must have a student attending the school at least one of the two years of their term. For more information, please visit: https://www.schools.utah.gov/schoollandtrust

If you are interested in participating and helping our SCC, please send a short biography to me. That way, I can send out information to parents when we have our election. We will have our election in August.

As we look forward to the coming school year, please continue to check the Alpine School District website for any updates. https://alpineschools.org/returntolearn/

Alpine School District is partnering with the company, ESS to fill substitute teaching positions. If you would like to become a substitute teacher, please see the following link to the ESS website. ESS.com/alpine.

Thank you for your support and patience as we plan for the upcoming year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
