The following information is for families in the Alpine School District:

We have recently become aware of two things our community partner, United Way, is doing to help families with limited internet access:

  1. Computer Labs. Computer labs in designated public libraries throughout the county are staffed at specific times with volunteers who can offer assistance in both English and Spanish.

  2. Adopt a Computer. Low income adults can earn a desktop computer by completing 10 hours of time in one of the computer lab help sessions. Computers come from donations and are wiped and cleaned before being given out.

Happy Thanksgiving Week OES Families,

Today is our last day for students to attend school this week.  Many of you know that we have a Jr. Hope Squad here at Orem Elementary.  Laura Giles is our teacher who heads this up, and along with other teachers in our school who help train students to be on the look-out for other students who may be having a difficult day.  Please see the attached monthly newsletter for families from Hope for Utah.

As the holidays approach, I want everyone to know that there are resources that are available to families who need extra help in providing for their families.  Please see the attached flyers for the Sub for Santa sponsored by United Way.

After Thanksgiving Break, we can look forward to “Book Buddies” on November 29, 2018. More information from the PTA will be coming.

Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who are helping in getting our “Great Artist Program” off the ground.  A really big thank you to Stephanie Scott and Sean Seastrand for organizing everything. So far, the students who have had lessons are really enjoying them.  We have a wonderful, supportive community within our school. Thank you!

Have a wonderful and safe holiday break!  See you all next week.

Basics and Pro Se Guardianship Workshop

December 5, 2018 6:00-8:30 p.m.

Dan Peterson School, 169 North 1100 East, American Fork

What is guardianship and why is it important? Did you know that all children who turn 18, the age of majority, are considered adults even if they have disabilities? This can affect your involvement with your student’s IEP, working with medical professionals and more. Come to this presentation to learn about guardianship and if you will need to file for it, what types of guardianship are available and what the process entails. Next you will learn about the Pro Se Process. Family petitioners can represent themselves in the court process. This process is called Pro Se Representation and it can save the family members money by choosing to represent themselves. During the training, families will be taught how to fill out these documents correctly, how to file the documents with the court and how to represent themselves at the hearing. Following the training, documents can be emailed to you along with detailed written instructions.

Space is limited.

Pre-registration for this class is required. Register at https://utahparentcenter.org/events/
