Principal’s Message – January 10th

Dear OES Families,

There has been a little confusion on our choir situation.  The OES choir held at Orem Elementary on Wednesdays is for 4th – 6th grade students.

Orem Jr. High offers a choir program on Mondays for 4th – 6th graders from4:10pm – 5:00pm.

They also offer a choir program on Tuesdays for 1st – 3rd graders from3:50pm – 4:30pm.

The choirs at Orem Jr. are separate from the OES choir, however, students from OES have been invited to join.  If you are interested in joining the choir at Orem Jr., please contact Mrs. Killpack at Orem Jr.  Her email is[email protected].

If you are still interested in the OES choir, please contact Mrs. Hancock.  There is still an opportunity to join:  [email protected]

Our Spelling Bee is coming up, it will be the week of Feb. 12, 2018.  There are copies of the words in the office and also attached to this email.

The following message is from the PTA:

Hello OES Parents!
We just wanted to keep you updated on some PTA news.

1) In our meetings earlier this school year we discussed the natural disasters and lock down situations that were happening across the country and decided to provide each classroom with a “Luggable Loo”. These are buckets with a toilet seat that will be kept in each classroom (and specialty rooms such as the media center, gym, etc.) in the event that a lock down occurs. We are hopeful that these will never need to be used, but want to be prepared. We have also provided each classroom with small snacks for the students and teachers (photographed below). If your child has allergies to any of the snacks provided, please send an alternative snack in a ziplock baggie with your child’s name on it.

2) We are in need of a new PTA executive board (President, Treasurer & Secretary) for the 2018-19 school year. It would also be wonderful to have a President Elect (who would work alongside the president with the intent to serve the following year), but the other three positions are vital to keep PTA running smoothly. The current board will have served 2 years and will not be able (or allowed) to serve any longer.

Here are some ways you can help:

-Volunteer to serve in any capacity. Orem Elementary has a wonderful volunteer base and you will not be working alone! Most of my job as president has been to communicate with Mrs. Park (who is amazing to work with!), follow through to make sure activities are organized and properly staffed, attend monthly meetings and occasional region meetings and help at the school as needed. If you are organized (secretary), have a brain for numbers (treasurer) or would like to increase your capacity in those departments   , I would encourage you to think about serving. Working alongside other involved parents, especially my board, has been a huge blessing the last two years. I have met and become friends with some of the most wonderful people I have ever met. If PTA president sounds like a daunting job to do alone, you can also encourage a friend to work with you and serve as co-presidents.

-Volunteer to serve on our nominating committee. The nominating committee ensures that we are properly staffed for the upcoming year. They contact the heads of the previous year’s committees and ask if they would be willing to continue. They also brainstorm individuals who would be well suited to serve in needed positions and invite them to fill those positions. The nice thing about the nominating committee is that you are exempt from serving on the Executive Board.

Please contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to consider working with the PTA next year.

Thank you so much!
